SUDBURY, ON - The NOJHL Board of Directors like the leadership they see in newly appointed Commissioner Robert Mazzuca ......... so much so they have asked Commissioner Mazzuca to lead the NOJHL through to the 2015 season.
This past Saturday, the 7 member franchise Team Governor’s voted unanimously to give Mazzuca a 2-year contract extension with a 3rd year option available to the Commissioner to exercise up to the spring of 2014.
Robert Mazzuca was named the NOJHL's appointed commissioner back in early August. Since taking over the top NOJHL position, Commissioner Robert Mazzuca has created a Concussion Safety Program; the first of its kind in Tier II Junior ‘A’ hockey in Canada. The Commissioner has also implemented a League wide Anti-Doping Program which will see NOJHL players facing random drug tests beginning early this January to ensure clean play throughout all of the NOJHL.
An excited Mazzuca stated, “I am deeply humbled by the unanimous vote of confidence the NOJHL Board of Director’s has given me this past weekend. There are many more challenges and hurdles the NOJHL is faced with in the foreseeable future, including expansion, a league wide secondary education program that has the NOJHL working for all players, directly with CIS and NCAA secondary education programs and just as importantly, working with area Triple AAA hockey programs in building better and stronger relationships that further improve the development and the advancement of younger players moving forward into the NOJHL.”
“We have all worked very hard at creating a fun, safer and healthier environment for all our players and their parents to feel both comfortable and proud to participate in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League. We care about our players and their parents while playing here in the NOJHL” added Commissioner Mazzuca. “The NOJHL Board of Director’s and I are deeply committed to meeting the challenges on our horizon head on, while always striding toward creating a better, safer, fun and healthy junior hockey environment that provides our players and their parents with an opportunity to cherish a junior hockey experience for a lifetime.”
