RAIDERS' WINTHER WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Prince Albert Raiders’ forward Mike Winther is the WHL Player of the Week.

Winther collected 10 points, scoring eight goals and two assists to go with a +2 rating, in four games over the past week helping the Raiders to a 2-1-0-1 record.

On Tuesday, December 6, the Raiders hosted the Regina Pats at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert. Winther scored his first career hat-trick, finding the net three times, added two assists and was named the games 1st Star as the Raiders doubled up the Pats 6-3. The Raiders then set out on an Alberta road trip with their first stop in Calgary on Friday, December 9. Winther scored one goal in the Raiders 5-4 shoot-out loss to the Hitmen. The next night, Saturday, December 10, the Raiders were in Edmonton to face the Oil Kings. Winther collected two goals in the Raiders 5-3 loss to the streaking Oil Kings. They wrapped up their trip in Red Deer on Sunday, December 11, squaring off against the Rebels. Winther scored two goals and was named the games 3rd Star in the Raiders 5-0 win over the Rebels.

Winther is currently on a five game goal scoring streak and sits in a tie for 14th among all WHL goal scorers with 17 and has collected a total of 27 points thus far this season. The Raiders are 4-1-0-1 in their last six contests as they continue to improve from their slow start on the season.

A 17-year-old from Trochu, AB, Winther is in his second full season with the Prince Albert Raiders who made him the 6th overall selection in the 2009 WHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Ty Rimmer of the Tri-City Americans for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Rimmer posted a 2-0-0-0 record this past week, stopping 59 of 61 shots faced for a 0.967 save-percentage and 1.00 goals-against average. Rimmer, a 19-year-old from Edmonton, AB, led the Americans to victories over the Victoria Royals (6-2) and Portland Winterhawks (3-0).
