USHL Honors - Week Eleven

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 11th week of the 2011-12 USHL regular season.

Award winners include forward Jared Hanson of the Lincoln Stars, named CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defensemen Markus Lauridsen of the Green Bay Gamblers, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Jon Gillies of the Indiana Ice who earned Reebok USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Hanson scored five points (3g, 2a) and earned a plus-five rating as the Stars won three games in three nights. He dished out two assists in the 5-2 win vs. Sioux Falls on Friday. The 18-year-old from Palmer, Alaska then scored three goals, including the winner in overtime, during the 4-3 victory over Waterloo on Saturday. It was the first hat trick of his USHL career as he fired a game high seven shots on goal. Hanson is playing in his second USHL season and has collected 16 points (9g, 7a) through 18 games, already equaling his goal total from 53 games last season.

Lauridsen recorded four points (2g, 2a) and a plus-three rating as the Gamblers earned a two-game weekend sweep over Cedar Rapids. He scored the game-winner in overtime of the 6-5 win on Friday. It was his third game-winner of the season. The 20-year-old from Hellerup, Denmark then had a USHL career best three-point game (1g, 2a) in Saturday’s 6-2 win. Lauridsen is the League’s top scoring defenseman with 16 points (4g, 12a) in 23 games this season and leads the USHL overall with a plus-17 rating.

Gillies posted a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .957 save percentage as he helped the Ice pick up two wins against Dubuque during the weekend. He made 26 saves in Friday’s 6-1 victory. Although his team was outshot 43-20 on Saturday, he equaled a season high with 41 saves in the 3-2 win to earn his USHL leading 12th victory of the season. The 17-year-old from South Portland, Maine is currently tied for second amongst League goaltenders with a .922 SV%.
