Wisconsin's Dietrich named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Wisconsin Wilderness forward Mike Dietrich has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period running Dec. 12-18.

In four games last week the 19-year-old South Hampton, N.J. native had points in all of them, accumulating 11 in total, helping the Wilderness record victories in each of those outings.

Dietrich began by scoring twice and dishing out three assists in a 9-2 triumph over Iron Range on Tuesday; followed that up by notching a pair of markers, including the game-winner; in a 3-2 victory over Dryden Friday and then added three helpers Saturday as the Wilderness completed a sweep of the Ice Dogs in a 9-1 win. He wrapped up his week by firing another goal in a 6-2 decision for the league-leading Wilderness over Duluth on Sunday.

Wisconsin’s top point producer’s offensive production allowed him to extend a consecutive game point streak to 18 games, having amassed 17 goals and 14 assists during that span while moving into a share of third spot in SIJHL scoring with 42 overall points. He also leads the league in game-winning goals with six.

To recognize his on-ice efforts, Dietrich will be presented with a gift card courtesy of Pizza Hut.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Tyler Ampe, (G) Fort Frances Lakers; Diego Breckenridge, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Quinn Rempel, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars; Cody Stettin (F) Duluth Clydesdales; Jayme Brattengeier, (G) Sioux Lookout Flyers and Benjamin Brouillard (F) Iron Range Iron Heads.

At the conclusion of the 2011-12 regular season the top performer in the SIJHL will be presented with the Pizza Hut player of the year award.
