The Jr. Wolfpack are proud to announce that All-Star forward Nick Belger has committed to Sacred Heart University D1 for the 2013-14 season. The Yorkstown Heights, NY native in in his second season for the Jr. Wolfpack and has become one of the most dangerous offensive forwards in the AJHL.
Belger is second on the team with 13 goals and also second on the team with 27 points which shows this youngster has a bright future ahead of him.
“Nick has been a staple part of our organization over the last two season. He has a ton of upside and is going to be a dangerous player at the college level. He has a relentless offensive knack and is very crafty and patient with the puck, Sacred Heart has got themselves a very good player and a tremendous young man,” said Chris Cerrella.
The 1994 forward is looking forward to his opportunity and is looking forward to continuing to develop before he heads to Sacred Heart in the near future.
“It has been my dream to play Div I college hockey and the Jr. Wolfpack has helped me get there. I would like to thank Coach Cerrella for believing in me and taking the chance on me two years ago as a young player. He has really worked hard to help me achieve my goal of receiving a Div I commitment. I would especially like to thank my family for supporting me through all these years, without any of them this would not have been possible. I am looking forward to finishing my junior career strong and I am really looking forward to joining the Pioneers in the future,” said Belger.
Sacred Heart University is located in Fairfield, CT just 35 miles from the Jr. Wolfpack home rink. They play in the Atlantic Hockey Div I conference and they are coached by Head Coach CJ Marottolo and is assisted by Scott McDougal and Lou Santini.
“Being in the middle of the college hockey hot bed has been a great tool for our staff. We have several Div I universities within 40 miles of us and several Div 3 schools as well. The players are guaranteed if they do well here for us they will get exposure and our commitment list shows just that. It has been a great year this is our 11th college commitment with a few more to go, I am very proud of our players and our coaching staff,” said President Dan McCarthy
