Eagles goalie Hunt earns second POW nod of the season

Surrey Eagles goalie Andrew Hunt has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 5, the league announced Monday.

Hunt faced 128 shots in three games last week and turned aside 122 of them. The Surrey native took 3rd Star for a 33-save victory over the Langley Rivermen, followed up with 37 saves in an OT loss to the Cowichan Valley Capitals and capped off his week with 52 saves and a 1st Star nod in a win over the Nanaimo Clippers.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound netminder had a 1.98 goals-against average and .953 save percentage for the week. He now leads the BCHL with 1,269 saves on the season.

Honourable mentions this week go to Coquitlam Express forward Cody Michelle (two goals, four assists), Powell River Kings goalie Sean Maguire (two wins, 0.94 goals-against average, .969 save percentage), Vernon Vipers forward Adam Tambellini (two goals, three assists, two 2nd Stars), Trail Smoke Eaters forward Connor Tiechko (four goals, one assist, 1st Star) and Vernon Vipers goalie Kirby Halcrow (two wins, 1.00 goals-against average, .968 save percentage).
