Also on the Saturday at the Essar Centre there will be NOJHL Action at 2:30 p.m. as the rival Sault Thunderbirds take on the Soo Eagles. That game will be followed by the minor midget game between the Kings and Redmen and then at 7:30 the Hounds will take on Western Conference rivals, the Saginaw Spirit as the Playoff chase continues to heat up.
Hounds goaltender MATT MURRAY is a product of the Thunder Bay Kings development system. The Kings have also produced NHL All-Stars Eric, Marc, & Jordan Staal and many other graduates of the OHL now playing in the NHL including Alex Auld, Taylor Pyatt, and Ryan Parent.
While the Copper Cliff Redman are a reincarnation of the Sudbury Wolves Minor Midget Club from last season which produced 3 current OHL players Ryan KUJAWINSKI (4th overall, Sarnia Sting) with Kingston, Tyler BERTUZZI (Guelph Storm), and Jacob SMITH (Kingston). In addition, to 4 other players drafted in last season's State Farm OHL Priority Selection.
Hounds' General Manager Kyle Dubas worked closely with managers from both clubs to ensure that the logistics of the event could be outlined in a way that made the trip an efficient and beneficial one for both organizations.
"As an organization, we are very proud to be able to help provide these young men a platform to showcase their skill and ability leading into this April's State Farm Priority Selection" Dubas said. "To be able to help promote the ability and potential of the players in Northern and Northwestern Ontario through this weekend, is the least that our organization can do for an area that supports our organization so well."
The Saturday Afternoon at the Essar Centre will provide a tremendous opportunity for scouts to see some of the best hockey players at the NOJHL, Minor Midget and Ontario Hockey League Level. The Greyhounds will open the scouts and media room in time for the Minor Midget contest at 5:00 pm with game night lineups, coffee, refreshments, and light fare.
"This is a weekend truly about the young men with the Thunder Bay and Copper Cliff clubs who have put in tremendous effort this season" Dubas concluded. "This will give each club an opportunity late in the season to showcase their abilities in front of a plethora of OHL scouts."
All of the Thunder Bay and Copper Cliff players are eligible for the 2012 State Farm Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. The Hounds are busy continuing to prepare for the 2012 Priority Selection which will take place on April 7.
