Ouellet, Asselin and Girard TELUS three stars of January

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today the winners of the TELUS three stars for January.

The first star is awarded to Blainville-Boisbriand Armada defenseman Xavier Ouellet. Ouellet earned at least one point in 10 of 11 games last month to average 1.45 points / game. He registered 5 games with 2 points or more and in all, scored 4 goals and added 12 assists for a total of 16 points and a +/- of +8.

Chicoutimi Sagienéens right-winger Guillaume Asselin is the second star. Asselin scored the most goals of any player in January, 12 in all, equalling Zach O’Brien. In addition, 19 of his 21 points were collected on the road. He registered at least 2 points in 7 games while thrice netting game-winners. He was also a healthy +7 for the month.

Finally, Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender Gabriel Girard gets the third star. He registered the best goals-against-average amongst league goalies at 1.71, the best winning percentage, having won 7 out of 8 games, and the second best save percentage at 0.934 behind only Roman Will (0.936). Last January 25th, Girard shutout the Tigres, the league’s best offensive club, by stopping 22 shots. He also helped his team pick up 15 points out of 16 when he took over nets in January. He posted a 7-0-0-1 record. His streak of 14 consecutive undefeated games in regulation time dates back to November 25th.
