PENTICTON VEES ON THE VERGE OF MAKING HISTORY

Press Release sent to the World of Junior Hockey

PENTICTON, BC- The Penticton Vees Hockey Club will have an opportunity to tie a twenty-two year-old BCHL consecutive wins record this Friday (February 3rd). The Vees have won twenty-eight straight games and are one win shy of the BCHL record of twenty-nine set by the New Westminster Royals in 1989-1990.

Penticton started the streak on November 11th with a 7-2 win in Trail, with their last loss coming November 5th against Merritt in overtime (the last regulation defeat came on November 2nd.) The winning streak will span eighty-nine days by Friday.

Out of the twenty-eight wins, only one victory came in overtime; December 6th in Westside.

The Vees are ranked 1st in the Canadian Junior Hockey League National Top 20 rankings and have maintained that position for the past four weeks.

Through forty-five games, Penticton sports a 40-3-0-2 record, twenty-three points clear of second place in their conference; twenty points ahead of second in the overall standings.

Penticton will have the chance to match and break the record in the next two games against the Chilliwack Chiefs, who are coached by Harvey Smyl. Smyl was the Assistant Coach of the record setting New Westminster Royals twenty-two years ago.
