Red River Showdown at MTS Centre

Press Release

Today, (Wedenesday, February 8th) at the MTS Centre will once again be the site of the 3rd annual Red River Showdown between Winnipeg Saints and Selkirk Steelers.

“Fans who don’t have Jet tickets and want to see the MTS Centre are encouraged to take in our game,” says Saints’ GM/Head Coach David Anning. “These are two teams which have a great rivalry. The players love playing at this facility and it’s a great place to watch a hockey game.”

Saints won last year’s Showdown with a 7-2 victory. As of today, the Steelers (32-19-2) are in 4th place and the Saints (26-20-5) are in 5th place in the Addison Division. The Saints are 2-2-1 vs Selkirk this season.

The game promises to be an exciting offensive match-up, with five players in the top 14 in the MJHL scoring race. Saints are led by veteran Brett Chartier who has 32 goals and 34 assists in 48 games.

“The MJHL calibre of talent is unbelievable this season,” says Anning. “It may be a cliché, but on any given night any team can win. It’s really a fan’s dream come true.”
