Press Release
The Chicago Steel announced that rookie forward Alex Roos has committed to play hockey at Colorado College following his USHL career.
"I went and visited the Colorado College last year and really liked the campus and facilities,” said Roos. “It was what I was looking for in a school."
The 17-year-old Roos has scored a goal in each of his first three USHL games. He made his debut with the Steel on January 28th and recorded two points (1g, 1a) in the 5-2 win vs. Green Bay. The forward is a native of nearby Prairie Grove, Illinois.
"Colorado College's coaches and my coaches at the Steel were very excited for me," Roos said. "Colorado's coaches are very easy to talk to and were very helpful in the recruiting process. They took me on a tour of the team's facilities along with the campus and showed me what it would be like to be a student at the university."
Roos joins two other Chicago Steel players that have committed to Colorado College – defenseman Jaccob Slavin and forward Christian Heil. Des Moines Buccaneers defenseman Duggie Lagrone has also committed to the school.
Colorado College is a member of the WCHA and has 17 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Nick Dineen (Sioux Falls Stampede), Dakota Eveland (Omaha Lancers), Gabe Guentzel (Sioux Falls Stampede), Tim Hall (Ohio Junior Blue Jackets), Joe Howe (Waterloo Black Hawks), Alex Krushelnyski (Sioux City/Chicago), Joe Marciano (Omaha Lancers), Eamonn McDermott (Fargo Force), William Rapuzzi (Green Bay Gamblers), Jaden Schwartz (Tri-City Storm), Scott Winkler (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Aaron Harstad (Green Bay Gamblers), Peter Stoykewych (Des Moines Buccaneers), Jordan DiGiando (Dubuque/Cedar Rapids), Charlie Taft (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Scott Wamsganz (Dubuque/Waterloo), and Ian Young (Fargo/Chicago).
In addition, Colorado College head coach Scott Owens and assistant coach Eric Rud have both spent time in the USHL as coaches.
