USHL Honors - Week 19

Press Release

The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 19th week of the 2011-12 USHL regular season.

Award winners include forwards Austin Cangelosi of the Youngstown Phantoms and Jono Davis of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, named co-recipients of CCM Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Logan Smith of the Lincoln Stars, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Matt Skoff of the Sioux City Musketeers who earned honors as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Cangelosi scored five points (3g, 2a) over three games for the Phantoms. He tallied the team’s only goal in Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Chicago. The 17-year-old then had a three-point game (1g, 2a), including the game-winning goal, in Friday’s 5-3 victory over Dubuque. Cangelosi scored the first goal of the game during Saturday’s 4-3 win at Cedar Rapids which extended his goal streak to five games and pushed his point streak to nine games (6g, 7a). The first-year USHL forward is a native of Estero, Florida and is currently eighth in League scoring with 41 points (19g, 22a).

Davis recorded five points (4g, 1a) during a pair of games for the Saints. He scored all three goals for the team in Friday’s 5-3 loss to Youngstown. It was his first USHL career hat trick. The 19-year-old from La Verne, California then scored the game-winning goal and dished out an assist in Saturday’s 6-1 victory over Indiana. Davis has scored seven of his 10 goals this season over his last six games and all seven have been at even strength. The forward has posted 15 points (10g, 5a) in 20 games with Dubuque this season.

Smith collected two assists and recorded a plus-six rating for the Stars during their 7-0 win against Des Moines on Friday. The plus-six was the highest plus/minus rating by a USHL player in a game this season and the highest mark in the League in over two seasons when it was last accomplished by defenseman Nick Jensen of the Green Bay Gamblers on January 30th, 2010. Smith is a 19-year-old native of Littleton, Colorado and has collected eight points (2g, 6a) in 21 games for the Stars this season, including four assists over his last four games.

Skoff posted a 1.44 goals-against-average and a .944 save percentage while earning two victories for the Musketeers. He made 28 saves in the Friday’s 4-1 win over Tri-City. He then made 23 saves and stopped all three shooters in faced in the shootout of Saturday’s 3-2 shootout victory against Omaha. It was his 15th win of the season and the 59th of his USHL career. Skoff is a 20-year-old native of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania and ranks third among USHL goaltenders with 845 saves and is fourth among netminders in total minutes played (1,742) this season.
