WARRIORS’ RILEY COMMITS TO MAINE

Press Release

Haverhill, MA- Head Coach Andy Heinze said that Conor Riley is probably the best defenseman that his Valley Jr. Warriors program has ever had. Obviously the coaching staff at the University of Maine feels the same way.

The blueliner who has established himself as one of the most dominating defensemen in the league recently announced that he had accepted a four-year scholarship to play with the Black Bears.

Riley, a former Albany Academy standout, has taken on a lead role on special teams this season and has become one of the top defensemen in the Easter Junior Hockey League (EJHL). Not only was he an EJHL Defensive Player of the Week earlier this year, but he was one of four Warriors to be named to the 2012 EJHL All Star team.

“He is simply a true Division I talent,” said Heinze of Riley who leads the team in +/-. “He rarely loses a puck in the corner and can always be trusted to come through for us. It was no surprise that so many coaches were interested in him because he is such an outstanding and committed player."

His potential is clearly unlimited. This year marks only the second year that Riley, who stands at 6-1 and 180 pounds - has played defense and Heinze noted that Riley’s potential is unlimited.

“I am excited to see his game grow in Orono,” said Heinze. “He has the ability and drive to be an impact player at that level.”

Riley has been a key reason why the Warriors are enjoying another strong season and sit in third place in the Northern Division. Through 37 games, Riley has amassed a team high 25 assists including 10 on the power play.
