AMHL Announces New Director of Public Relations and Social Media

Press Release sent to the World of Junior Hockey

HAWTHORNE, NJ – The Atlantic Metropolitan Hockey League is pleased to announce the hiring of Charles O’Brien as the new Director of Public Relations and Social Media (formerly titled the Director of Media, Events and Communication). O’Brien, who is the Media Relations Contact for the New Jersey Rockets Juniors program as well as the Juniors Feature Writer for the New York Hockey Journal, will be responsible for managing the social media initiatives for the Atlantic Youth Hockey League and the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League, in addition to developing content for the AMHL web site and being the primary spokesperson for the AMHL.

O’Brien will also be the point person for all AYHL and MJHL media and public relations activities, including showcase events, press releases and All-Star events.

“This is a tremendous opportunity,” O’Brien said. “The MJHL is filled with over 46 years of tradition and I am proud to become a part of that, under the AMHL banner. I am looking forward to furthering the organization’s presence in the media as well as use my role to enhance the mission of the AMHL -developing and promoting players to move advanced levels of hockey. I’m very excited to be working for the AMHL.”

O’Brien replaces the recently departed Derrek Douglas. Douglas recently accepted a position as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the New York Islanders. “Derrek did an excellent job as the Director of Media, Events and Communications,” said AMHL President Gene Palecco. “He developed a social media presence for the MET and the Atlantic Youth League and really enhanced our entire organization. We are looking forward to continuing, and increasing, our presence in the media going forward and we are very pleased to have Charles join us. We thank Derrek for all of his efforts and wish him luck in his new position with the Islanders.”
O’Brien may be reached at AMHLPR@gmail.com.
