Ducks Sign Friberg to Three-Year, Entry-Level Contract

Press Release

The Ducks have signed left wing Max Friberg to a three-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Friberg, 19 (11/20/92), led all players at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton with nine goals and ranked tied for second in scoring with 9-2=11 points and a +4 rating in six games. Scoring a tournament-high four goals (4-0=4) in a 9-4 win over Latvia on Dec. 26, Friberg was named to the 2012 World Junior All-Star team after helping lead Sweden to a gold-medal victory. With the honor, Friberg became the first Anaheim draft pick to be named to the tournament All-Star team since Paul Kariya in 1993. Friberg also appeared in 48 games with Timra of the Swedish Elite League last season, scoring 5-5=10 goals with eight penalty minutes (PIM).

A native of Skovde, Sweden, Friberg originally represented Team Sweden at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, NY, scoring 2-0=2 points in six contests. He spent the 2010-11 season with Skovde of Sweden’s Division 1 league, earning 13-27=40 points with six PIM in 34 games. Friberg, who ranked fourth in the league in scoring, also appeared in 23 contests for Skovde in Sweden’s Division 2 league, scoring 10-17=27 points.

Selected in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Friberg made his professional debut in 2009-10 with Stockholm AIK Jr. and Stockholm AIK of the Swedish Division 1 leagues. The 5-10, 198-pound winger scored 4-6=10 with two PIM in five contests and 1-2=3 and four PIM in six contests, respectively.
