Gudbranson acquired from Fronts

Press Release

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club announced Monday that the team has acquired 17-year old defenseman ALEX GUDBRANSON from the Kingston Frontenacs.

In exchange the Hounds transfer Oshawa’s 2nd Round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Sudbury’s 4th Round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection and Sault Ste. Marie’s 9th Round pick in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection to the Fronts.

"The addition of Alex is another key step towards us continuing to execute our plan which will see our program achieve sustained success” began GM Kyle Dubas.

"When looking at our group of defenseman, our staff felt the one thing we lacked heading into this season was a big defender with experience who can match up against the oppositions best players and bring a physical edge. Alex has shown over his two seasons that he is capable of playing against top opponents and also shows adept puck movement and some offensive upside” continued Dubas.

The 6.02, 206-lb rearguard is coming off his 2nd season with Kingston. In 50 games played the Orleans, ON product had 2 goals and 7 assists in 50 games played.

Alex was originally drafted by Kingston with their 1st pick (10th overall) in the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. It was during his rookie campaign that he would go on to win a gold medal with Team Ontario at the World Under-17 hockey challenge.

"Our program is thrilled to add a player of Alex's character and work ethic. We look forward to welcoming the Gudbranson family to Sault Ste. Marie this August" concluded the Hounds GM.
