Huntebrinker Commits for 2013-2014

Press Release

Waterloo Black Hawks forward Mike Huntebrinker will return to the Cedar Valley for a second season of junior hockey knowing there is a place waiting for him at Minnesota State-Mankato in the fall of 2013.

The Black Hawks announced Tuesday that the 19-year-old from Chesterfield, Missouri, has committed to the Mavericks program. As a USHL rookie in Waterloo during 2011-2012, Huntebrinker tied for fourth on the squad with 17 goals. His 34 total points in 54 regular season appearances ranked sixth among the Hawks. From February 19th through the end of the regular season in mid-April, the 5-11, 180-pound skater averaged over a point per game. Huntebrinker added four goals and six assists during 13 Clark Cup playoff games.

“We asked Mike to do a lot of different things last season. He rose to the occasion and was an important contributor when we needed more scoring near the end of the year,” said Black Hawks head coach P.K. O’Handley. “Black Hawks fans should be excited for Mike, and excited to have him back for another season.”

Huntebrinker is the 17th player who was on Waterloo’s 2012 postseason roster to make an NCAA Division I college commitment. He is one of six in that category who is slated to appear as a Black Hawk again next season. Among returning players, only Taylor Cammarata and Vince Hinostroza had more goals and points in 2011-2012.
