Mustangs Signings as of June 1st 2012

Defenseman Riley Boomgaarden (1994)
Grande Prairie, Alberta

Boomgaarden comes to the Mustangs from the Grande Peace Athletic Club where he was named the MVP of his AAA Midget team and the Top Defenseman for 2011.

The six foot three defenseman put up 21 points in 28 games last season and added 95 penalty minutes.

“Melfort is a great little town. The arena is great and it seems like you have a good fan base. Gavin and Dwight were good to me and really helped me make the decision to come.”

Boomgaarden will attend Red Deer Rebel (WHL) training camp in the fall prior to reporting to the Mustangs.

Forward Sheldon Argent (1994)
Melfort, Saskatchewan

Fans know him well as the Melfort native has been around the club in some facet since he was in elementary school. Now, the 18 year old will get a chance to strut his stuff on the ice.

“It feels great! Since I was young I was stick boy and hanging out the jerseys’ and wishing my name was on the back. Getting a chance to play in front of my home town is fun.”

Argent has appeared in 11 games with the Mustangs over the last two years and most recently was the Captain of the Tisdale Trojans where he amassed 13 points and 20 penalty minutes in 30 games.

Defenseman Jay Aasen (1994)
Melfort, Saskatchewan

Another local product that fans should recognize is the 5’9” smooth skating Jay Aasen.

The 18 year old appeared in one game for the Mustangs last year and put up 14 points in 31 games for the Tisdale Trojans this year.

“I’m definitely excited about signing. With it being such a young team here, it’s good to be a part of that group. It’s exciting and it’s going to be fun.”

Aasen was an assistant captain with the Trojans for the last two seasons.



Forward Regan Wilton (1994)
Meskanaw, Saskatchewan

A 34 point getter with the Prince Albert Mintos last season, Regan Wilton will provide some offensive punch to this Mustangs squad.

Wilton played one game in the SJHL last season and made it count as he scored on just his 3rd shift.

“I’m really excited to be here. Gavin and I have talked lots and its going to be a really good year. It’s a young team but I think we are going to win quite a few hockey games.”

Wilton played on a Mintos squad last season that featured current Mustang Landon Belchamber.



Defenseman Mark Foster (1994)
Tisdale, Saskatchewan

Mark Foster is just another big defenseman to add to a corps that already features 6’4” Carter Berg, 6’2” Cody Brown and 6’1” Matt Sanderson.

The 6’2” Tisdale native patrolled the Trojans blueline last season and had just 5 points but amassed 74 penalty minutes.

Foster got into 4 SJHL games last season registering one assist.

“I feel like there is a good group of guys here and it’s going to be a fun year. I got a taste of it last year and I’m excited to get going.”


The Mustangs would like to welcome all of our new recruits to the SJHL.
