67's Sign 2 Defencemen

Press Release

July 31, 2012 (Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67’s today announced the signing of two 17-year old Ottawa area defencemen: Nevin Guy and Mathieu Desautels. Guy, a 5’ 11” left defence from Winchester ON., was Ottawa’s 4th round pick in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection draft. He played most of last season with the Winchester Jr. “B” Hawks. Desautels, a 5’ 11” right defence from Green Valley ON. (near Cornwall), was a free agent. He played for the CCHL’s Ottawa Junior Senators last season.

“We’re glad to have both these players under contract,” said 67’s Head Coach and General Manager Chris Byrne. “Nevin is a highly-skilled player, coming off a great season in Winchester. He played a lot of minutes last season and established himself as one of the league’s top puck moving defencemen.” In 42 games with the Hawks, Guy scored 18 goals and recorded 60 points.

“Matt Desautels was one of the top players at our June evaluation camp,” said Byrne. “He showed very strong skating and puck moving skills and he was very hard to play against. We know he had several good options for the coming season and we’re happy he chose the 67’s.” Desautels played in all situations with the Jr. Senators last season and was named the team’s rookie of the year, after scoring 3 goals and 13 points in 53 games.
