Bandits Governor Moving On

Press Release

After 13 years of volunteer service with the Brooks Bandits long time Governor Byron Smith has stepped down.

Byron was instrumental in uniting a group of investors to form the founding fathers in 1999 and followed that up by lending his hand as the team's first President. The Bandits have been through their fair share of ups and downs over the past 13 years but through the hard work and dedication of Byron Smith the team was able to survive and succeed. Byron has always been a strong and positive supporter of the club and it is most fitting that he moves on after the Bandits achieved their first AJHL Championship this past year. Byron will now have the luxury of being a fan and continuing to support the team from a birds' eye view.

With Byron's departure, outgoing President Paul Seaton will assume the role of Governor after serving the past six years as Alternate Governor. Former Vice-President Dave Hemsing moves into the Presidency and will now also serve as Alternate Governor. The Bandits have also appointed Noel Moriyama to act as a liaison between the organization and the AJHL's hockey operations. This is a new position that will give strength to the team's day to day operation.

Paul Seaton has also been named to the AJHL's Management Committee. This is the first time in 12 seasons that the Bandits are represented at the league level and this will give them the opportunity to serve as leaders in the development of the AJHL. This is a three year term that will see the team represented until 2015.

As an organization we are proud to have had one of the longest serving Governors in the AJHL. Everyone involved with the Bandits would like to thank Byron for not only serving as Governor but making this all possible through his work 13 years ago
