Murphy Named Assistant Captain

Press Release

The Penticton Vees Hockey Club is pleased to name Wade Murphy an Assistant Captain for the upcoming 2012-2013 BCHL season.

The Victoria, BC native is returning for his third and final season of junior hockey before heading off to Merrimack College in the fall of 2013. The 19 year-old collected 14 goals and 29 points in 22 games with the Vees last season, after he was acquired at the January card deadline from the Victoria Grizzlies. Murphy finished the 2011-12 season with 36 goals and 91 points split between Victoria and Penticton. In the post-season, Murphy fashioned together 14 goals and 27 points in 26 games, en route to being named team co-playoff MVP.

“Acquiring Wade Murphy at last year’s trade deadline was critical in our team’s success, giving us the opportunity to bring home a National Championship,” comments Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson.“Wade will bring leadership and direction to a group that is excited to carry on the tradition of being one of the top organizations in Jr. ‘A’ hockey. Our program is very fortunate to have Wade as part of our leadership group before he moves on to Merrimack College.”

Murphy joins Troy Stecher as part of the team’s leadership group; Stecher was named team captain late last month.
