Senators sign forward Shane Prince to an entry-level contract

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has signed forward Shane Prince to a three-year entry-level contract. Prince recently completed the 2011-12 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s and helped them advance to the OHL Eastern Conference final, where they were eliminated in five games by the Niagara IceDogs.

The Senators’ second-round pick (61st overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Prince has played the last 2-1/2 seasons with Ottawa, establishing career highs in 2011-12 in goals (43) and points (90). He ranked second among all 67’s players in goals, assists (47) and points, and was fourth in OHL scoring this season. Prince concluded the 2012 post-season ranked second among Ottawa players with 16 playoff points (seven goals, nine assists).

Selected the OHL Player of the Month in January, Prince registered a six-game point streak from Jan. 22 – Feb. 1 (six goals, three assists) and a four-game point scoring streak from Jan. 8 – 19 (six goals, eight assists). He also received the Brian Kilrea Award, which is presented to the 67’s player who devotes the most time to community/charity activities over the course of the season.

In 244 career OHL contests with the Kitchener Rangers and Ottawa, the native of Spencerport, N.Y., has registered 220 points (86 goals, 134 assists) while amassing 109 penalty minutes and a +67 rating.
