The Dallas Stars Hockey Club announced today that it has signed first-round draft pick Radek Faksa to an three-year entry-level contract.
Selected 13th overall by the Stars in June’s NHL Entry Draft, Faksa is currently in Texas participating in the Stars’ annual Summer Development Camp. The 18-year-old centre was the first Czech-born player to be selected in the first round since Jakub Voracek in 2007. In addition, he was the fourth Ranger in three years to be drafted in the first round, following Jeff Skinner (seventh overall, 2010 - Carolina Hurricanes), Gabriel Landeskog (second overall, 2011 - Colorado Avalanche) and Ryan Murphy (12th overall - Carolina Hurricanes).
The Rangers’ first-round selection in the 2011 CHL Import Draft, Faksa appeared in 62 regular season games for Kitchener this season and totaled 29 goals and 37 assists, more than any other rookie in the Ontario Hockey League. A three-time OHL Rookie of the Month, he also attended the 2012 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Kelowna, B.C., where he finished first in the Show-Down Breakaway Contest during the Skills Competition.
In addition to an outstanding rookie season in Kitchener, the 18-year old was also the only 1994-born player to be named to the Czech Republic’s roster for the 2012 IIHF World Hockey Championships in Alberta, where he recorded a pair of goals and helped his country to a fifth-place finish.
