Tiggo Cup Up For Grabs Again

Press Release

For the second year in a row the Grande Prairie Storm will be looking to bring home the Tiggo Cup.

They weren't successful last year losing to the Dawson Creek Rage in a game held in Peace River. They get another chance this summer.

On Sunday, Aug. 26 the Storm will take on the Drayton Valley Thunder in the Junior A Charity Classic in Edson and on the line again will be the Tiggo Club.

Sponsored by local company Tiggo Transport, the game is again a fund-raiser for a northwestern Alberta community.

"The purpose of the game is to raise money for charity and provide great entertainment for the town of Edson and surrounding communities," said Jon Armbruster of Tiggo Transport.

"We think giving back to communities is important for youth in Edson. (Edson Elemenary Breakfast Program) and some of Edson's older past leaders. (Edson Oldtimer Shuttle bus) along with Edson Minor Hockey and the Aboriginal National Hockey Championship (Team Alberta)."

Tickets for the game went on sale in Edson earlier this week.

"Last year in Peace River we had over 800 people attend the game and we raised a lot of money for the fire victims in Slave Lake," said Armbruster. "I m sure Storm coach Blaine Bablitz will have his team fired up to defeat Thunder coach Fran Gow (former Storm coach) and win the Tiggo Cup this year."

Anyone with questions about the Tiggo Cup can email Mike Butler mikeb@edson.ca or Armbruster jon@tiggotransport.com

The game is one of five pre-season contests the Storm will be involved in.

On Aug. 24 the Storm host the Whitecourt Wolverines in the Canada Games Arena at 7:30 p.m., on the 26th they are in Edson, on the 28th they take on the Wolverines in Whitecourt; on Aug. 31 the Storm host the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League at 7:30 p.m. in the Games Arena; and on Sept. 1 they wrap up their exhibition schedule with a game in Prince George against the Spruce Kings.

The Storm fall camp kicks off on Monday, Aug. 20 with about 40 players. On Thursday, Aug. 23 those players will be split into two teams for the annual Brian Nash Memorial Game with funds raised going towards Storm scholarships.

Fans are also reminded that season tickets are now on sale at the Crystal Centre Box Office. Any season ticket holder from last year who returns and purchases their season ticket can purchase an additional season ticket for just $99.
