COUGARS HONOUR CORY CONACHER

Press Release

Night two in the OJHL saw the Burlington Cougars kick-off their season by honouring one of the OJHL's most successful alumni during the 2011-12 season in Cory Conacher.

Conacher, a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning AHL affiliate Norfolk Admirals, won just about all there was to win for a player at this level last year. Conacher led the AHL with 39 goals and would finish second in scoring with 80 points, to be named the league's Most Valuable Player, Most Outstanding Rookie and a 1st Team All-Star. He continued his stellar play into the playoffs, helping the Admirals capture the first Calder Cup in franchise history, while earning a contract with the Lightning.

Conacher spent the 2006-07 season with the Burlington Cougars as a 16-year old, finishing third on the club in scoring with 62 points in 48 games played. Following the season, he moved across the border, taking advantage of a scholarship to play NCAA Division I hockey at Cansius College.

Last night, the Cougars honoured Conacher prior to their home opener, as Wes Wiseman (pictured - photo credit - Glen McDonald/Burlington Cougars) presented Cory with his number '24' jersey and retired it from active duty with the club. Conacher would stay and sign autographs for fans throughout the game.
