Kitchener Rangers announce Murphy as 2012-13 team captain

Press Release

The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club revealed Ryan Murphy as the Captain for the 2012-13, 50th anniversary season at a news conference and employee event at Sun Life Financial's Canadian headquarters in Waterloo on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

The event in partnership with the Rangers was a kick-off for the Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program. The program is the cornerstone of an on-going multi-year sponsorship agreement between the Rangers and Sun Life Financial.

Ranked best skater, best offensive defenseman and second best stickhandler in the 2012 Western Conference Coaches poll, the Rangers 2012-13 captain is looking forward to his new responsibility with the team.

"This is a big year for us. It's our 50th Anniversary and I am proud and excited to lead this team into the season."

Murphy recalled his time with the team and what he has learned from past leaders and friends such as Gabriel Landeskog and Michael Catenacci. He said, "They had different styles, but they were both a strong voice in the dressing room. They brought the team together and they played like leaders on the ice. I'm looking forward to following in their footsteps."

Video and updates of this event and the Rangers 2012-13 captain, Ryan Murphy will be posted to kitchenerrangers.com soon.
