Screaming Eagles Release Veliky

Press Release

Sydney – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced today that they have released 18-year-old European Adam Veliky.

The Screaming Eagles selected the six-foot-one, 170-pound forward Slovakian forward seventh overall at the CHL Import Draft in June, but after six weeks of evaluation in training camp, have decided to release him.

“He didn’t turn out to be the player that we had hoped he would be,” said Screaming Eagles General Manager Pierre Roux. “The European draft can be very unpredictable; there are a lot of factors that go into making a selection. Unfortunately we didn’t get the result we wanted, despite having a good relationship with the player’s agent Allan Walsh.”

With the departure of Veliky, the Screaming Eagles roster sits at 24 players including 3 goaltenders. It also leaves the team with an open European spot.

“I take responsibility for this situation,” said Roux. “I made a mistake at the import draft, but now we must move forward. I want to wish the best of luck to Adam with his future.”
