Spokane make cuts

The Spokane Chiefs will enter their first two pre-season games with 34 players remaining on their roster, including 15 rookies and 19 veterans. Spokane is currently carrying five goaltenders, 11 defenseman and 18 forwards.

Prior to the weekend Spokane reassigned 17-year-old forward Dustin Gorgi to the AMHL and 18-year-old forward Dylan Robertson to Fernie of the KIJHL.

Spokane will play the host Silvertips on Saturday night at 7:00 and Seattle on at Sunday 1:00, both in Everett’s Comcast Arena during the Everett Silvertips Holiday Inn Pre-season Classic.

Of the 15 rookies remaining on the roster three are goaltenders; 17-year-old Trevor Martin, 16-year-old Garret Hughson, and 15-year-old Tyson Verhelst.

A number of veterans, including 19-year-old goaltenders Mac Engel and Eric Williams, will not make this weekend’s trip to Everett. Twenty-year-olds Blake Gal and Brenden Kichton and 19-year-old forward Marek Kalus will also be held out of play this weekend.

The Chiefs will play six games in advance of the regular season opener on Saturday, September 22nd at the Tri-City Americans. Spokane will open the home portion of the season on Saturday, September 29th against their U.S. division rival Americans.
