Vees Sign Vilardi; Harris Returns

Press Release

The Kingston Voyageurs have signed Kingston born sniper Frankie Vilardi, the third round pick of the Sudbury Wolves from this past summer’s OHL priority selection draft. Vilardi has been a scoring machine throughout his minor hockey career, which included leading the entire Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) league in scoring last season. Vilardi was the first forward drafted by the Wolves and all indications all summer long were that he would play this season in Sudbury. He was signed early, given Sudbury equipment all summer and joined the Wolves on their pre-season camp in Russia in August, but things turned quickly once camp opened up in Sudbury. The Wolves had Vilardi listed as the 13th forward and wanted him to get more ice time, especially in an offensive role, which they will look to him for as he grows as an OHLer.

This change in plans means good things for the Vees, as Vilardi has joined the Vees and will play his first full season as a Voyageur. Last season, Vilardi played three games for the Vees and registered two goals and four points in those three games. Big offensive things are expected from the 17 year old sniper and the Vees couldn’t be happier to add Frankie to the roster.

“We’re thrilled to add Frankie to our roster. He has been the best player at his age group locally for a number of years and we couldn’t be happier to have him and hope we can help get him back to the OHL soon,” said Head coach Colin Birkas

"This is an opportunity for me to play and get more experience playing against older players and continue to grow as a player. I just have to work hard and do what I have to do to try and help the Vees win and get myself up to the OHL level," said Vilardi

The Vees got some other good news yesterday, as forward Junior Harris reported to Vees camp. Junior was attending a pre-season ECHL open tryout and exploring some potential pro hockey options but has now returned to the Vees and will be one of the key cogs in driving the Vees offensively this season.
