BARRIE OBTAINS THE RIGHTS TO NIKOLAI PROKHORKIN

Press Release

The Barrie Colts continue to be busy on the trade front as they have obtained the rights to forward Nikolai Prokhorkin from the London Knights.

The Barrie Colts send the London Knights a conditional 15th round pick in 2013.

In exchange the Colts receive Russian forward Nikolai Prokhorkin. If Nikolai Prokhorkin reports to the Barrie Colts, Barrie will send their 4th round pick in 2015 and a 2nd round pick in 2016 to London.

Prokhorkin was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 4th round (121st overall) in 2012. The 6’2 190lbs forward from Chelyabinsk, RUSSIA played for the CSKA Moskva of the KHL last season. The London Knights drafted Nikolai Prokhorkin in the 1st round (58th overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

"Prokhorkin is currently trying out for Manchester in the American Hockey League, but if that doesn't work out then there could be a possibility we see him in a Colts uniform this season. It's a gamble on our part with the potential for a huge reward. We will wait and see what happens in the coming weeks with respect to where he ends up,” says Colts GM Jason Ford.

To make room for Prokhorkin the Colts have released CHL Import Samu Markkula. Markkula was Barrie’s 45th pick overall in the 2012 import draft. Markkula made five appearances for the Colts registering 1 assist.
