BLANLEIL OFF TO VERMONT

PENTICTON, BC – The Penticton Vees Jr. Hockey Club is pleased to announce forward Travis Blanleil (94) has committed to the University of Vermont for the 2014-15 season. Blanleil is the 12th player on the Vees roster to secure an NCAA Division l scholarship.

Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson says Blanleil is all about hard work, “I enjoy seeing good things happen to good people; Travis has made our program better on and off the ice and now he is being rewarded for his dedication.  I look forward to continuing with Travis's development over the next two seasons.

Blanleil, 18, is in his first season with the Vees and third in the BCHL after moving over from the West Kelowna Warriors this past summer. In 15 games with Penticton, Blanleil has three goals and five points to go along with 19 penalty-minutes. Blanleil is a well-rounded player, playing both at center and on the wing this season and been a key contributor to the Vees special-teams. Blanleil has plenty of BCHL experience under his belt considering he is only 18. The Kelowna product has appeared in 128 regular season games, putting up 27 goals and 62 points in parts of three seasons.

The Vermont Catamounts are a member of Hockey East, and reside in Burlington, Vermont. The Catamounts have been playing Division l hockey since 1974 and have appeared in the NCAA Men’s Hockey Championship tournament five times; making it to the Frozen Four in 1996 and 2009. The Catamounts have had over a dozen alumni play in the NHL, including five who've won Stanley Cups. Notable alumni include Tim Thomas, Martin St. Louis, Patrick Sharp and John LeClair. Recent Vees alumnus Kyle Mountain is currently in his sophomore season in Burlington.
