BYRON HAS TWO POINTS, MANICCIA GETS WINNER AS GOLD TOPS GREEN

Press Release

TORONTO, Ont. – Blaine Byron (Manotick, Ont./Kemptville, CCHL) assisted on the game-tying goal midway through the second period and scored the insurance marker in the third as Gold evened its record at the Canada East selection camp with a 3-1 win over Green on Tuesday night.

Byron set up Mike Soucier (Caledon, Ont./Wellington, OJHL) to even the game 1-1 less than five minutes after Marly Quince (Thunder Bay, Ont./Cornwall, CCHL) had given Green the lead with the game’s first goal.

Chris Maniccia (St. Catharines, Ont./Smiths Falls, CCHL) had the other goal for Gold, scoring the game-winner on a power play just 1:59 after Soucier had tied the game.

Despite just four goals there was no shortage of chances for both teams – Green held a 41-36 advantage in shots on goal, although both teams managed 27 shots apiece over the final 40 minutes.

Just as Black and Gold did in Monday’s camp opener, the teams split the goaltending duties – Daniel Mannella (Woodbridge, Ont./Georgetown, OJHL) got the start for Gold before giving way to Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, B.C./Kingston, OJHL), while Kevin Entmaa (Milton, Ont./Aurora, OJHL) replaced Adrian Ignagni (Mississauga, Ont./St. Michael’s, OJHL) in the Green goal midway through.

Green will look for its first victory when it meets Black in Wednesday’s camp finale at the MasterCard Centre (6:30 p.m. ET).
