CANALTA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - OCT.29, 2012

Press Release

 Ian McNulty, Melville Millionaires

1992 F Ian McNulty (Airdrie AB) rattled off two goals and five assists in three games played last week, all Millionaire victories.  McNulty had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 home ice win over Weyburn last Wednesday.  He followed it up two nights later with a goal and three helpers in a blowout decision over Kindersley.  He ended the week with one assist against Melfort in a shootout victory on Saturday.  For the season, McNulty now boasts 7-goals and 17-assists in 15-games, good enough to lead the league in scoring.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Jeff Datoff, Nipawin Hawks

1992 D Jeff Datoff (Nanaimo BC) collected three assists in three games played for the Hawks last week, including a two helper game on Thursday in Nipawin.  On Saturday, he contributed a goal in a shootout loss to the Yorkton Terriers.  Datoff has 5-assists in 12-games and is a crucial cog in the wheel on the back end for the Hawks as he’s coming off an all-star caliber season as a 19-year-old and the team hopes he can even better that in his final junior campaign.

SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Devin Buffalo, Flin Flon Bombers

1993 G Devin Buffalo (Wetaskiwin AB ) had a flawless week as he posted back to back shutouts in each of his starts.  He made 24-saves on Friday in a lopsided win over Notre Dame and then stayed mentally focused through a night on Saturday in which he wasn’t very busy at all, making 14-saves in blanking the Humboldt Broncos.  He is now 9-and-2, 2.08, .930, 2-SO on the season.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Darcy DeRoose, Estevan Bruins

1995 F Darcy DeRoose (Ceylon SK) played one game last week, but it was his best game of his short SJHL career.  The former Moose Jaw General Midget AAA star picked up two goals and one assist as part of a 4-1 win over the Battlefords North Stars on Friday night.  That boosted DeRoose’s season total to 3-goals and 1-assist in 10-games played.  It is worth noting DeRoose does still have a year of midget eligibility remaining, so he’s playing his first season in the SJHL as an underager.
