IGOR LARIONOV TO ATTEND SUBWAY SUPER SERIES

The Vancouver Giants Hockey Club is excited to announce the first of two very special guests that will be in attendance when the Giants host Game 5 of the 2012 Subway Canada/Russia Super Series on Wednesday, November 14.

On this night, the greatest rivalry in hockey will return to the Pacific Coliseum as TEAM WHL, comprised of Canadian World Junior eligible players, takes on their counterparts from TEAM RUSSIA. The Giants will mark the occasion by celebrating two very important anniversaries with representatives from each nation.
Representing the Russians will be one of the game’s all-time greats. Former Vancouver Canuck and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Igor Larionov will be on hand to mark the 25th Anniversary of the 1987 Canada Cup. Larionov is a 3-time Stanley Cup Champion is one of only four men who have won an Olympic Gold Medal, World Championship, Stanley Cup, Canada/World Cup and World Junior Championship (Viacheslav Fetisov, Scott Niedermayer & Joe Sakic are the others).

“Igor was a consummate professional and a brilliant student of the game” says Giants Co-Owner and former GM and Coach of the Canucks, Pat Quinn. “He was a smart, two-way player, and turned out to be an incredibly strong leader. Along with the drafting of Trevor Linden, bringing Igor over from the then Soviet Union was one of the most significant influences on us becomes a championship-calibre organization.”
