HAWTHORNE, NJ – The Metropolitan
Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce its “Three Stars of the Week” for
the period ending October 21, 2012. The
three stars program is a weekly award given to the top three performers in
league games, regardless of position, for the previous week. The awards will be scored on a 5-3-1 point
basis and will assist in determining the end of year awards.
This week, Central Penn Panthers
forward Dominic Brenza (’95 birth
year/Camp Hill PA) is the league’s 1st star, Long Island Royals
forward J.T. Hall (’93 birth year/Lake
Grove, NY) is the league’s 2nd star and Connecticut Wolfpack forward
Nick Amarone (’94 birth year/Hamden,
CT) is the league’s 3rd star of the week.
Brenza, a key returnee for Head
Coach Andy Scott and the Central
Penn Panthers had a tremendous offensive week for the Panthers. Brenza had 8 points (5G 3A) during the review
period in leading the Panthers to wins over the Philadelphia Little Flyers
(6-2) and the Philadelphia Junior Flyers (5-4 and 6-1). The three victories gave the Panthers a 6
point cushion in the Dowd Division over second-place Richmond and Brenza now
finds himself among the MJHL scoring leaders after the outburst this past week. “Dominic was a difference maker for us,”
commented Scott. “We had a lot of key
players injured and Dominic put us on his shoulders.”
Hall, the Lake Grove, New York
native, continued his strong play in the early part of the 2012-2013 season,
keeping the defending National Silver Medalists undefeated in MJHL play with a
pair of victories over the New York Saints (9-3 and 6-2). Hall singlehandedly paced the Royals in the
first matchup, scoring three consecutive goals, adding a pair of assists, for a
total of five points. Hall would add an
assist in the second matchup to pad his weekend total to six. Hall has been in discussion for star of the
week recognition all season long and his play is a big reason behind the Royals
12-0 start. “JT had a great weekend,”
commented Long Island Royals Head Coach Ken
Hoey. “He simply took the game over
on Saturday and carried our team to victory against a scrappy Saints club.”
Amarone, a first time honoree, had
a big weekend for Head Coach Chris
Cerella and the Connecticut Wolfpack.
Amarone 4 points (3G 1A) over a two game sweep of the Boston Junior
Rangers. The pair of victories (5-4 and
6-2) closed the Rangers lead over the Wolfpack to a single point in the Francis
division race. “We are expecting big
things from Nick in the near future,” commented Cerella. “After missing a year of hockey, he has the
skill and hockey awareness to become a future student athlete. We feel that he is one of the top players in
the MJHL and will get his chance at higher levels once his conditioning is where
it needs to be.”
