Steelers’ Thomas named RBC Player of Month

Parker Thomas of the Selkirk Steelers has been named the MJHL RBC Player of the Month for September.

Thomas, 20, showcased his offensive skills, reflected in seven goals and 10 points over five games. Steelers went 2-2-1 over that stretch.

The runners up are 20 year old forward Richard Olson of the Virden Oil Capitals and 20 year old forward Brett Pinkerton of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Sherwood Hockey Defenseman of the Month

Thomas Ward-Cardinal of the OCN Blizzard was awarded the top D-man for the month of September.

The 20-year-old vet was solid in his own zone, in addition to contributing offensively with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) in 6 games. The Blizzard have benefitted from solid team play, winning five of their first six games.

The runners up are 18 year old Tanner Jago of the Winkler Flyers and 19 year old Josh Elmes of the OCN Blizzard.

 MJHL Goaltender of the Month

A large factor in winning is the play of a team’s goaltenders. OCN Blizzard know this first hand, with Justin McDonald named top goalie for September.

The 20-year-old goaltender was outstanding for the Blizzard who went 5-1 in their first six games. McDonald went 3-0, with a stellar GAA of 0.99 and one shutout.

The runners up are 19 year old Isaiah Plett of the Winnipeg Blues and 19 year old Byron Spriggs of the Winnipeg Blues.

IBAM Rookie of the Month

Justin Baudry of the Steinbach Pistons has been named top rookie for September. While the 16-year-old is still looking for his first goal, he does have three assists in five games.

The runners up are 18 year old forward Brady Constant of the OCN Blizzard and 18 year old Jordan Grieg of the Virden Oil Capitals.
