AJHL announces Players of the Week

Press Release

CHESTERFIELD, VA. - The Atlantic Junior Hockey League (AJHL) has announced that Laconia Leafs forward Kyle Kreiner (left), Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights defenseman Gianni Paolo (middle) and Philadelphia Jr. Flyers goaltender Dylan Troiano have been named the Offensive, Defensive and Goaltender of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Nov. 4.

Kreiner, from Euclid, Ohio, connected for three goals and an assist as the Leafs skated to a pair of ties with the Knights. On Saturday, the 1992-born tallied two goals - one on the power play, one shorthanded - and an assist in a 3-3 contest. The next day, the 5-foot-11, 173-pounder put home another power-play marker as Laconia knotted Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 4-4.

“Kyle raised his level of play last weekend with his determination,” said Leafs head coach Joe Cardarelli. “Our guys recognize that special teams are momentum-changers, and Kyle’s efforts in that regard were key to our success.”

Paolo, a Hope, R.I., native, picked up two assists, including one on forward Erik Moberg’s game-tying goal with 24 seconds left in regulation, in the Knights’ 3-3 tie with the Leafs on Saturday. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound 1996-born was held scoreless the next day in a 4-4 tie with Laconia.

“Gianni has really started to learn the defensive side of the game,” said Knights head coach Justin Lyle. “He believes that playing great defense will result in offensive chances, and he’s taking advantage of his opportunities.”

Troiano, from Dayton, N.J., backstopped the Jr. Flyers to a two-game sweep over the Washington Jr. Nationals, turning aside 44 of 46 shots. On Saturday, the 1993-born stopped all 27 shots he faced in a 5-0 victory. The next day, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder made 17 saves as Philadelphia doubled-up the Jr. Nationals, 4-2.

“Dylan’s performance this year has been tremendous,” said Jr. Flyers head coach Jerry Domish. “His leadership and work ethic are outstanding, and we’re lucky to have such a promising goaltender between the pipes.”
