BRANDON WHEAT KINGS: Bernie Chrisp to be Honoured

Press Release

Brandon, MB. – A former member of the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup Host Committee will be recognized at this Friday's Western Hockey League game between the Wheat Kings and visiting Prince Albert Raiders at Westman Communications Group Place.

Bernie Chrisp, who is currently serving as Brandon's Bid Vice President for the 2017 Canada Summer Games, has been chosen the first Atom-Jet Group Innovator of the Month Award of the 2012-13 WHL season.

No stranger to major sporting and community events in Brandon, Chrisp was recently awarded the Diamond Jubilee medal, which is presented to those Canadians that have made a significant contribution or a particular achievement abroad that brings credit to our country.

In addition to his current role with the Canada Summer Games Host Committee, Chrisp served as chair of Support Services for the 2010 Memorial Cup as well as serving on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch event organizing committee.

He has served as Chair of the 2006 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, he was Vice President of the Athletes' Services for the 1997 Canada Summer Games, Chairman of the Manitoba Games Council for many years and President of Brandon Riverbank Inc.

A former minor hockey coach, Bernie has volunteered on the board of Sport Manitoba as well as being a member of the Kinsmen Club of Canada and the Brandon Rotary Club.

This marks the ninth season that western Manitoba hockey fans have been given the opportunity to visit the Wheat Kings’ official website and nominate coaches, volunteers, athletes and officials for this prestigious award. This is the second year that Atom-Jet Group has been its Presenting Sponsor.

Friday's game will be the first of a home and home weekend series between the two teams. While Brandon is coming off a 5-3 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Raiders currently occupy top spot in the WHL's Eastern Division.

Tickets to the game, which will also feature the official kick-off to Brandon's Operation Red Nose Campaign, are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling 726-3555.
