Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that
Mackenzie Skapski of the Kootenay Ice is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of
the Week for the week ending November 18 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record
with two shutouts for a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save
percentage of .964.
Skapski backstopped the Ice to three straight wins beginning last
Monday night when he picked up his second shutout of the season with a
17-save performance as third star of a 4-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen.
Skapski and the Ice then hosted the Brandon Wheat Kings for two games
including Friday night where he made 32 saves as part of a 5-3 victory,
then again on Saturday where he earned first star honours stopping all
31 shots he faced in a 4-0 win.
Skapski, an 18-year-old from Abbotsford, BC, is playing in his second
full WHL season with the Ice. So far this season he carries a 7-7-0-0
record including three shutouts with a goals-against-average of 3.04 and
save percentage of .887.
Also considered for the award this week was Jordan Binnington of the
Owen Sound Attack who set a new franchise record for career wins with 66
while posting a 2-1-0-0 record with two shutouts along with a
goals-against-average of 1.34 and save percentage of .956. In the
QMJHL, Michael Nishi of the Gatineau Olympiques went 2-0-0-0 with a
shutout win posting a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage
of .984.
