Press Release
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with Ontario
Hockey League today announced the players that will serve as Captains
and Alternates for the 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series games to be played in
Guelph on Thursday November 8 and in Sarnia on Monday November 12.
Boone Jenner of the Oshawa Generals will captain Team OHL on Thursday night in Guelph, while Scott Harrington
of the London Knights will be the captain for Team OHL on Monday in
Sarnia. Both players competed for Canada’s National Junior Team winning
silver last season in Calgary and Edmonton and are captains of their
respective club teams. This also marks the third straight year both
players will be participating in the series.
Jenner, a 19-year-old from Dorchester, ON, was selected in the second
round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets and is
currently second in OHL scoring with 15 goals and 15 assists for 30
points in 19 games. Harrington, a 19-year-old from Kingston, ON, is a
Pittsburgh Penguins prospect selected in the second round of the 2011
NHL Entry Draft and has five points in 17 games so far this season.
New York Islanders prospect and 2012 World Junior silver medalist Ryan Strome
of the Niagara IceDogs has been named an Alternate Captain for both
games of the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series. The OHL’s leading scorer will be
joined by 2011 Carolina Hurricanes first round pick Ryan Murphy for the game in Guelph, with Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara IceDogs and Mark Scheifele
of the Barrie Colts joining Strome as Alternate Captains in Sarnia.
Scheifele, a first round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, and Hamilton, a
first round pick of the Boston Bruins, were also members of Canada’s
National Junior Team last season.
The SUBWAY® Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation
process prior to Team Canada’s final selection camp in December. This
season, Canada will be competing for their 15th straight
medal at the 2013 tournament in Russia. Team OHL enters the tenth
anniversary of this event with a perfect 18-0 record against Team Russia
following a 10-7 win last season in Ottawa, and a 6-3 victory in Sault
Ste. Marie.
The 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series is supported by CHL associate sponsors,
Bank of Montreal, Old Dutch, and Post. All games will be broadcast
nationally on Sportsnet.
