Mike Dietrich of the Minnesota Wilderness named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Minnesota Wilderness captain Mike Dietrich has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Nov. 18.

This marks the second time this season Dietrich has garnered the accolades after also earning the laurels back in week 5.

His latest award-winning effort saw the 20-year-old native of South Hampton, N.J. register seven points in just two games helping the SIJHL-leading Wilderness skate to a pair of one-sided triumphs.

He began by scoring once and dishing out for assists, including setting up the game-winner, in a 9-0 road drubbing of the Thunder Bay North Stars on Wednesday.

Dietrich followed that up Saturday by notching another marker and picking up a helper in a 7-1 home ice victory over the Fort Frances Lakers.

On the season the Wilderness forward, who was also the league’s Sportop performer of the month for October, leads the SIJHL in scoring with 39 points overall on 15 tallies and 24 helpers.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Nolan Holcombe, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Jon Carlson, (D) Fort Frances Lakers; Len Pelletier, (D) Dryden Ice Dogs; Matt Kaarela, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars and Ian Reffert, (F) Duluth Clydesdales.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season, the SIJHL’s top performer will be presented the league’s Pizza Hut player of the year award.
