Musketeers Defensemen Make College Choices

Two Sioux City Musketeers defensemen have made their college choices as Michael Holland committed to Rochester Institute of Technology and Michael Kapla committed to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

Holland has appeared in all 13 games for the Musketeers this season while serving as one of the team’s assistant captains.  It is the third USHL season for the 20-year-old from Atkinson, New Hampshire who played his 100th game in the League on November 2nd.  Over 103 regular season games in the USHL, Holland has collected 13 points (2g, 11a) and 176 penalty minutes.  He was acquired by the Musketeers midway through last season from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.  The defenseman first broke into the USHL during the 2010-11 season with the Chicago Steel.

Sioux Falls Stampede forward Todd Skirving has also committed to RIT for next season.  RIT is a member of the Atlantic Hockey Conference and has seven USHL alumni on the roster this season; Alexander Kuqali (Sioux City/Indiana), Brad Shumway (Chicago Steel), Anthony Hamburg (Omaha Lancers), Andrew Miller (Chicago Steel), Ben Lynch (Lincoln Stars), Jeff Smith (Tri-City Storm), and Chris Saracino (Green Bay Gamblers).

Kapla is playing his first season in the USHL and has appeared in 11 games with the Musketeers.  He scored his first goal in the League on November 2nd in a loss to the Lincoln Stars.  The 18-year-old is a native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and was selected by Sioux City in the sixth round of the 2011 USHL Entry Draft.

The University of Masschusetts-Lowell is a member of Hockey East and has 11 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Chad Ruhwedel (Sioux Falls Stampede), Ryan McGrath (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Josh Holmstrom (Sioux Falls Stampede), William Eiserman (Tri-City Storm), Michael Fallon (Chicago Steel), Greg Amlong (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Zack Kamrass (Sioux Falls Stampede), Jake Suter (Sioux City Musketeers), Derek Arnold (Waterloo Black Hawks), Christian Folin (Fargo Force), and Dan Furlong (Sioux Falls Stampede).
