NAPHL prepares for third event of the season in Romeoville, IL

Press Release

The 2012-13 North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) regular season resumes this week, with the third event of the year taking place from November 9-12 at Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville, Illinois.  10 Midget Major (18U) and 10 Midget Minor (16U) NAPHL teams will compete at the event.  The event in Romeoville is the second of two back-to-back events in which the NAPHL teams were split.  16 of the teams competed in the first event, which took place in San Jose, California from October 19-22.
The 20 teams that did not participate in San Jose will now get their chance and their portion of the split event in Romeoville.  After the Romeoville event all teams will have played the same number of NAPHL regular season games heading into the Blaine II Showcase November 30-December 3 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.

Each NAPHL team competing in the Romeoville event will play a total of four games during the weekend.  All games at the Romeoville event will be broadcast live over the Internet through FASTHockey.  To watch live, click here.

The event will be held at Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville, Illinois, and will mark the first time an NAPHL event has been held at the facility.  Canlan Ice Sports Romeoville is a three-sheet ice facility featuring industry-leading sport development programs, leagues, special events and birthday parties.  It is one of the premier skating facilities in the Chicago-land area, located 45 minutes from downtown Chicago.  Canlan Ice Sports in Romeoville hosts several groups and events, which include: Travel youth hockey, junior hockey, a comprehensive youth hockey development program including Learn-to-Skate, skills and an in-house league, an adult development program, a women’s hockey club, adult recreational hockey leagues, off-ice training center and figure skating.

“We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the NAPHL in a new facility.  The Chicago-land area has always been a great stop for our events because of its centralized location, accessibility to scouts and passion for hockey,” said NAPHL commissioner and director Denny Scanlon. “We have already heard some rave reviews about the players through the first two events, and now that NAHL teams have the ability to tender players, the event in Romeoville comes at a perfect time in the season.  It will be a great opportunity for the players and teams to measure up how they have improved since the first event in September.”

After the second event in San Jose, the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, California Titans and Texas Tornado all lead the NAPHL’s 18U Division with seven wins.  However, at 5-0-0, the St. Louis Selects enter the Romeoville event as the only undefeated team remaining in the 18U Division.  In the NAPHL’s 16U Division, the Anaheim Jr. Ducks lead the way with a 7-0-1 record, followed closely by the California Titans at 6-1-1.  The Omaha AAA Lancers and the Pittsburgh Viper Stars will enter the Romeoville event as the only remaining teams in the 16U Division, both with perfect 4-0-0 records.

The NAPHL is comprised of six regular-season events leading up to its Championship Tournament Series in which the top teams at each level compete for a league championship. The NAPHL season concludes with its Top Prospects Tournament, which will be held in conjunction with the NAHL Robertson Cup Championship Tournament in May 2013.
