Lincoln Stars forward Eric Scheid has committed to play college hockey next season at Penn State University.
Scheid is currently second in scoring on the Stars with 14 points (7g,
7a) in 13 games this season. The 20-year-old has record four
multi-point games this year, including three points (2g, 1a) in the 5-2
win over Des Moines on October 5th. His plus-15 rating leads the entire USHL as he has finished all but one game this year with an even-or-better plus/minus.
It is the second USHL season for the Coon Rapids, Minnesota native as
he put up 36 points (15g, 21a) and a plus-13 rating in 57 games during
the 2010-11 campaign. He spent last season playing collegiately at the
University of Alaska-Anchorage.
Five other current players in the USHL are also committed to Penn State University – Alec Marsh (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Zach Saar (Des Moines Buccaneers), Conor Garland (Muskegon Lumberjacks), David Goodwin (Sioux City Musketeers), and Eamon McAdam (Waterloo Black Hawks).
Penn State is playing their first season as an NCAA Division I program
and will join the newly Big Ten Conference for hockey next season. A
total of nine USHL alumni are on the Nittany Lions roster this year;
Connor Varley (Des Moines Buccaneers), Mark Yanis (Muskegon
Lumberjacks), Bryce Johnson (Omaha Lancers), Kenny Brooks (Tri-City
Storm), Tommy Olczyk (Sioux City Musketeers), Casey Bailey (Omaha
Lancers), Joseph Lordo (Sioux Falls Stampede), Max Gardiner (Dubuque
Fighting Saints), Matt Skoff (Sioux City Musketeers).
