Press Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to
announce their first annual Teddy Bear Toss in partnership with the
Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. During the team’s Saturday, Dec. 15
matchup vs. the Jamestown Ironmen, fans are asked to bring teddy bears
to toss onto the ice at the War Memorial Arena following the game. All
stuffed animals collected will go to the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys
for Tots Program.
Fans also have a chance to contribute to the Program by bringing new,
unwrapped toys to Tomahawks home games that weekend and placing them in
the specified bins throughout the arena.
The Program, first established in the late 1940s, strives to collect
toys during the months of October, November, and December in order to
distribute them to less fortunate children in the local community where
the campaign is conducted. This allows individuals to give back to their
own communities during the holiday season.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Tomahawks to contribute to the
community and bring joy to children in the community,” said Director of
Ticket Operations Chris Anderson. “We are also happy to partner with
the U.S. Marine Corps. Having this as an annual event is something our
organization looks forward to.”
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit charity that
fundraises for the Toys for Tots Program. Annually, local campaigns
contribute to the Program in over 700 communities covering all 50
states. For more information, please visit http://www.toysfortots.org/.
