RoughRiders Duo Commits to Ivy League Schools

Press Release

Two members of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have made college choices and both are headed to Ivy League schools competing in the ECAC as forward Davey Middleton has committed to Brown University while defenseman Clay Anderson has committed to Harvard University.

Middleton has collected nine points (2g, 7a) in 17 games with the RoughRiders this season.  He opened the campaign by putting together a six-game point streak, amassing seven points (2g, 5a) during that span.  The 20-year-old from Novi, Michigan is also serving as the team’s captain.

It is the third season in the USHL for Middleton and second with the Riders after being acquired from the Tri-City Storm early in the 2011-12 season.  Over 82 career games split between the Riders and Storm, he has recorded 41 points (18g, 23a) and posted a plus-18 rating.

Two other current USHL players are also committed to Brown University – Tri-City Storm forward Tim Lappin and Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Alexi Rossi.

Brown University has six USHL alumni on the roster this season; Anthony Borelli (Lincoln Stars), Ryan Jacobson (Sioux Falls Stampede), Mark Naclerio (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Quick (Lincoln Stars), Jimmy Siers (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Nate Widman (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders).

Anderson is playing his first season in the USHL and has totaled 14 points (2g, 12a) through 19 games.  He leads Riders defensemen in scoring and is currently third overall on the team.  Earlier this season, the 18-year-old contributed multiple points in three consecutive games helping him to share honors as CCM Defenseman of the Week for the period of October 15-21.  Anderson also recently put together a five-game assist streak from November 16-29.
The Omaha, Nebraska native tallied the game-winning goal in the 4-3 victory over his hometown Omaha Lancers on November 3rd.

Five other current USHL players are also committed to play hockey at Harvard University – Tyler Moy (Omaha Lancers), Brandon Fortunato (Team USA), Sean Malone (Team USA), Alec McCrea (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Victor Newell (Waterloo Black Hawks).

Harvard University has seven USHL alumni on the roster this season; Tommy O’Regan (Omaha/Sioux Falls), Kyle Criscuolo (Sioux City Musketeers), Luke Greiner (Sioux Falls Stampede), Greg Gozzo (Omaha Lancers), Max Everson (Team USA), Dan Ford (Sioux City Musketeers), and Desmond Bergin (Tri-City/Dubuque).
