Press Release
The Portland Winterhawks have extended the contracts of Director of
Hockey Operations Matt Bardsley, Assistant Coach Kyle Gustafson and
Athletic Trainer/Strength & Conditioning Coach Rich Campbell through
the 2014-15 season.
“Matt, Kyle and Rich have played integral
roles in building our team into a perennial contender, and we’re pleased
to extend their contracts through 2015,” said Portland Winterhawks
President Doug Piper. “The length of their contracts now matches those
of Mike Johnston and Travis Green, ensuring long-term stability in our
organization as we pursue the goal of a Memorial Cup.”
Director
of Hockey Operations Matt Bardsley is in his 14th season with the
Winterhawks. He evaluates other teams’ rosters and list players, assists
Johnston and Green with trade discussions and player evaluations,
coordinates training camp, oversees the team’s recruiting program and is
currently directing the scouting department.
Assistant Coach
Kyle Gustafson is currently in his 10th season with the Winterhawks. He
assists with the team’s preparation for games and plays an active role
in team practices. Gustafson has overseen the team’s in-game video work
for several seasons, and moved behind the bench in November when Green
was named Acting Head Coach.
Athletic Trainer/Strength &
Conditioning Coach Rich Campbell joined the organization in 2008 and is
responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Winterhawks players’
physical conditioning. Before joining the Winterhawks, Campbell was an
athletic trainer for the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and was
Head Athletic Trainer for the NHL’s New York Islanders from 1996-2006.
