KLOMP NAMED MOST GENTLEMANLY PLAYER

Press Release

The Ontario Junior Hockey League today announced that Dean Klomp (photo credit - Gary Keys/OJHL Images) of the Lindsay Muskies has been named the recipient of the OJHL Most Gentlemanly Player Award.

During his four year OJHL career, all spent as a member of the Lindsay Muskies organization, Dean Klomp has been the epitome of a clean hockey player, never having recorded more than 12 penalty minutes in any one season.  He would do so, while continuing to be a valuable member of the Muskies offensive attack and the club’s captain in 2012-13.

The native of St. Mary’s, Ontario would finish tied for second on the Muskies in scoring this season with 58 points in 51 games played, also tied for 23rd overall in the entire OJHL.  Ranked second on the club with both his 25 goals and 33 assists, Klomp was a key member of both special teams units, notching seven power play goals and 20 power play points, as well as two shorthanded points and four game-winning goals this season.  As one of the club’s most consistent contributors, Klomp recorded points in 25 of the club’s first 29 games played in 2012-13, registering 42 points, to help the Muskies to a quick start on the season, ultimately finishing in third place in the North Division standings with a record of 25-25-5 for 55 points.

The 6’0”, 183 lbs. forward would receive just five minor penalties the entire season, never receiving more than one penalty in a game, nor in back-to-back games this year.  The 10 penalty minutes this season gives Klomp a total of just 40 minutes in penalties during his entire four year OJHL career; during a span of 184 regular season games played.

Klomp, who was a member of the OJHL East Division All-Stars at the inaugural Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge held last year in Smiths Falls, Ontario, was also named runner-up as the OJHL North-East Conference November Player-of-the-Month after notching 9 goals and 13 points, including points in nine of ten games throughout the month.

The OJHL Most Gentlemanly Player Award is awarded to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct, combined with a high-standard and proficiency of on-ice playing ability throughout the regular season.

Jonah Renouf of the Oakville Blades is runner-up in the OJHL Award balloting to Klomp.

The OJHL’s runner-up as Top Scorer after registering 94 points on the season, including a league-leading 65 assists, Jonah Renouf would record just 18 penalty minutes and was named an OJHL 2nd Team All-Star following the season.

The OJHL Baycon Construction Top Defenceman and first-ever Goaltender-of-the-Year Award recipients will be announced later this week.
