NOJHL announces 1st and 2nd all-star team selections for 2012-13

SUDBURY -- The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday their respective first and second all-star teams for the 2012-13 season.

Each all-star squad consists of one goaltender, two defencemen as well as a trio of forwards earning the laurels during the campaign with one player being chosen at the centre, left wing and right wing positions for both teams.

Also earning all-star accolades for both the first and second teams are were a coach, manager and trainer.

NOJHL 1ST ALL-STAR TEAM

GOALTENDER: GREG DODDS, NORTH BAY TRAPPERS — The 20-year-old netminder helped backstop North Bay to a first place finish atop the league standings. … He led all NOJHL goalkeepers in wins with 28, goals-against average at 2.25 and save percentage at .928. … Also has a share of the league lead in shutouts with three. Finished second overall in minutes played among all goaltenders with 2,235:38.

DEFENCE: JEREMY PICARD-FISET, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS — Helped anchor the Gold Miners defensive corps all throughout the season. … Topped all blueliners on the club in points with 27. … Of his six goals, four came on the power play.

DEFENCE: ADAM NEWKIRK, BLIND RIVER BEAVERS — The veteran defenceman in his last year of junior hockey skated in every game for the Beavers during the regular season amassing 25 points on seven tallies and 18 assists. … Is Blind River’s team captain and logged plenty of minutes each night helping his squad improve their fortunes night in and night out.

CENTRE: DARCY HAINES, SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS — The 19-year-old Haines led at NOJHL skaters in goals during the course of the regular season with 39. … Finished second in league scoring with 81 points. … His 10 power play tallies were the third most in the NOJHL.  … Represented the league at the Canada East World Jr. A Challenge selection camp.

LEFT WING: TAIT SEGUIN, NORTH BAY TRAPPERS — The rookie forward amassed 41 points in 46 games for North Bay this season finishing in the top 20 among in NOJHL scoring. … His 20 tallies were the third most on the Trappers on the campaign. … Second youngest player on any of the two NOJHL all-star squads.

RIGHT WING: SEBASTIEN LEROUX, SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS — Was an offensive force for the Nickel Barons all season leading both Sudbury and the NOJHL in total points with 81. … Led the league in point-per-game average at 1.86.

COACH: MARC LAFLEUR, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS — First year bench boss guided an ever-improving Kirkland Lake franchise to the fourth best record in the league this season. … Led his side to a league-low 612 penalty minutes.

MANAGER: RUSTY JONCAS, BLIND RIVER BEAVERS — Helped formulate a Blind River roster this season that showed a 16-point improvement in the league standings this season. … The Beavers also had five more wins than in 2011-12.

TRAINER: MARIO LAINO, SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS — Recognized for his efforts and dedication on the Sudbury staff.

NOJHL 2ND ALL-STAR TEAM

GOALTENDER: JOEL HORODZIEJCZYK, SOO THUNDERBIRDS — Rookie netminder finished second among all NOJHL goaltenders in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.38 and .918 respectively. … His 19 victories were the third most of any puck stoppers in the league. … Was tied for fourth in shutouts with two.

DEFENCE: MICHAEL CARUSO, SOO THUNDERBIRDS — Helped bolster a solid Soo defensive group that allowed the second fewest goals in the league this season. … Also chipped in with 16 points on the campaign, including four goals. … Youngest of all players on either the first or second all-star squads.

DEFENCE: COLE KLIPPENSTEIN, NORTH BAY TRAPPERS — The 20-year-old native of Franklin, Tenn., topped all NOJHL blueliners in points with 37. …His 18 goals also led all D-men.  … Second among all league skaters in the league in power play tallies with 11.

CENTRE: BRANDON JANKE, NORTH BAY TRAPPERS — Averaged nearly a point-per-game for the Trappers with 42 in 46 outings. … Finished in the top 15 among all NOJHL point producers.

LEFT WING: BRANDON WARMINGTON, SOO THUNDERBIRDS — Tied for seventh in league offensive numbers with 48 points in 44 games. … Seventh overall in man advantage markers with eight. … Tied for fifth in overall goals in the NOJHL with 22.

RIGHT WING: DARCY CASOLA, SOO THUNDERBIRDS — Led the Thunderbirds and was also third overall in NOJHL scoring with 66 points. … His 28 tallies tied him for the third most in the entire league. … Had 46 more points than a season ago.

COACH: DAVE CLANCY, SUDBURY NICKEL BARONS — Making a return to step behind the bench in Sudbury this season saw the Nickel Barons finish a strong third in the league standings in 2012-13 under Clancy’s tutelage.

MANAGER: JIM MACKINNON, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS — His efforts help bolster and reenergize a new-look Kirkland Lake franchise that saw their fortunes improve dramatically this season both on and off the ice.

TRAINER: CARLA VINE, KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS — Honoured for her tireless efforts on behalf of the club.
