USHL Honors - Week 23

 The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 23rd week of the 2012-13 USHL regular season.

Award winners include Trevor Mingoia of the Tri-City Storm and Peter Quenneville of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, who have been named co-recipients of CCM Forward of the Week; Jeff Taylor from the Dubuque Fighting Saints, selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Sean Romeo of the Youngstown Phantoms, capturing honors as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.

Trevor Mingoia, F, Tri-City Storm: The Fairport, NY native tallied six points (4g, 2a) over three games to help the Strom earn three of a possible six points in the standings. He potted a goal in Tri-City’s 6-4 loss to Waterloo on Thursday.  The next night, he dished out an assist and scored two goals in the second period to lead the Storm to a 6-4 win over the Indiana Ice.  It marked the first multi-goal game of his USHL career.  The 21-year-old capped off the weekend by registering a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 5-4 overtime loss to the Youngstown Phantoms.  Mingoia has goals in four straight games and is currently riding a six-game point streak, tallying 11 points (5g, 6a) over that span.  He is currently fifth on the Storm in scoring with 35 points (9g, 26a) in 39 games.

Peter Quenneville, F, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The rookie forward registered seven points (4g, 3a) as Dubuque earned five of six standings points over three games played.  On Friday night, he led all scorers with four points (2g, 2a), including the game-winning goal, in the 6-2 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.  He dished out an assist in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout loss the Sioux Falls Stampede before rounding out the weekend with another two-goal performance in Sunday’s 6-3 win over the Des Moines Buccaneers. The Quinnipiac University commit, who turns 19 later this week, is currently on a six-game point streak (6g, 5a).  Quenneville has appeared in all 50 games for the Saints this season and ranks sixth overall in USHL scoring with 59 points (26g, 33a).

Jeff Taylor, D, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The Clifton Park, NY native found the scoresheet in each of the three games for the Saints during the weekend, totaling four points (1g, 3a) and posting a plus-four rating.  Friday night, he dished out an assist in Dubuque’s 6-2 win over Cedar Rapids.  The rookie defenseman scored a goal on the power play and added an assist in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout loss to Sioux Falls.  The 18-year-old finished out the weekend by handing out an assist in Sunday’s 6-2 win in Des Moines.  He has four goals and 18 assists in 46 games played this season, ranking tied for 14th among all USHL defensemen in scoring.  Taylor, who is committed to Union College, is third overall in the League with a plus-36 on-ice rating.

Sean Romeo, G, Youngstown Phantoms: The Cary, NC native picks up his second consecutive Reebok Goaltender of the Week award, posting a 2-0-0 record with a 0.96 goals-against-average, and .961 save percentage last week.  He put together a 24-save performance on Wednesday to shutout the Chicago Steel 4-0. It was his fifth shutout of the season which ranks second among all USHL goaltenders.  The 18-year-old was back between the pipes on Friday, stopping 25 shots and making two crucial saves in the shootout to lead the Phantoms to a 3-2 shootout win against Chicago.  The University of Maine commit has picked up wins in each of his last four starts and is 8-2-0 over his last 10 appearances.  Romeo is second in the League with 23 victories this season.
